This book on the Bible, with its eccentric viewpoint, is sometimes sarcastic, sometimes cynical, but nevertheless it constitutes a pasto-ral effort, for it aims, through the lens of biblical criticism, to expose the Church's vulnerable teachings and sometimes out-of-touch arro-gance. My hope is that someone will address these tensions in pastoral and contemporary language. My yearning is for new apologists who someday will make books like this obsolete.
