Author Biography
Epstein, Samuel S. (Author)
Samuel Stanley Epstein was born in Middlesbrough, England on April 13, 1926. He received a bachelor's degree in physiology and medical degrees from the University of London. After immigrating to the United States in 1960, he conducted research at the Children's Cancer Research Foundation before joining the faculty of Case Western University Medical School in 1971. He taught at the Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine and School of Public Health at the University of Illinois from 1976 until 1999.

He focused his career on preventing cancer. He helped draft the federal Toxic Substances Control and Resource Conservation Recovery Acts in the mid-1970s. He wrote several books including The Politics of Cancer. He received the Albert Schweitzer Golden Grand Medal for Humanitarianism in 2005. He died of cardiac arrest on March 18, 2018 at the age of 91.
