Travelling from his home in Australia, Callaghan is arrested in Italy upon arrival. After being extradited to the UK, he's later released on bail. Exiting the prison, he immediately gets kidnapped and drugged, and is then left for dead. Regaining consciousness, Callaghan finds himself in Africa. Reaching the Mediterranean, he can only return to Europe by risking a precarious journey with illegal migrants. Barely surviving the sea voyage, the penniless Callaghan manages to get to Switzerland, where he seeks help from a surgeon who has performed transplants on him. With the doctor's help, he clandestinely reaches London.
