Amongst the many distinctive characters is Hugh, who in life was a plain brown rescue dog who was elected and still serves posthumously as Rescue Village's animal mayor, along with his sidekick Marino, the constable cat. By day, Campbell creates the nationally syndicated daily cartoon strip "Flo and Friends," but by night, she puts on her cartoonist superhero cape and devotes herself to helping Rescue Village communicate important messages about providing care and shelter for homeless, sick, abused, and neglected animals. This book is a unique collection of original art, along with the copyright, is Campbell's ongoing and exceptional contribution to Rescue Village and the cartoons in this book are central to the humane society's identity.
