More DescriptionThe Creole Incident reveals not only the institution of slavery as it was, but brings to light how the Constitution of the United States and the Union were saved, twenty years prior to the Great American Civil War. In 1836 the United States of America was on the verge of losing its democracy. The Creole Incident investigates a calculated and premeditated course of action taken by a handful of radical abolitionists, in concert with certain members of Congress, that links them to the slave revolt onboard the brig Creole. Their goal was to break the stranglehold of slavery's Representation in Congress. At the heart of the story is the love between a slave and his wife and their determination to be free. These two stories become intwined and reach a climax when Her Majesty's government decides the fate of those imprisoned in Nassau, Bahamas on charges of mutiny and murder. This intelligence sets in motion a series of dramatic floor fights in the United States House of Representatives as the balance of power between North and South hangs in the balance. A true historical incident that is an American story for all Americans.
