More DescriptionWhile you might be tempted to call the author "The Donut Lady of Grand Marais, Minnesota," this book tells another side of Merieta Altrichter, founder in 1969 of the Grand Marais landmark, World's Best Donut Shop: the heart of a grandmother and her tender concern for her granddaughter's request to heal an injured chicken. Charmingly illustrated in colored pencil by Merieta's daughter, Donna Wilson, this book, tells the story of a woman with a strong sense of purpose and family -- and a great donut recipe. The world may indeed know Merieta Altrichter for her donuts, but within her own family, she was most famous for her ability to heal pets and mentor generations to carry on the donut shop business. The book is a collaboration of five generations of Merieta's family. All help fry and serve millions of donuts every summer on the shores of Lake Superior from the cheery red building with the white scalloped trim.
