More DescriptionIn 1941, at the age of 18, Leonard Sonck decided to leave occupied Belgium. At a time when few still believed in a possible allied victory, Leo set out on a journey to reach unoccupied England. He successfully traveled through France before being captured at the Spanish border after spending three days hiking through the Pyrenees. After being transferred through several prisons, he found himself at the concentration camp of Miranda de Ebro in northern Spain. After almost a year of captivity, he was released, and eventually made his way to England by way of Portugal. In the UK, Leo joined the Free Belgian Forces, but was soon given the opportunity to become an SOE agent. After months of training, he qualified as a special agent and was parachuted into Belgium, where he took part in several sabotage missions.
