Excerpt from book: BOOKS WOKTH READING. AT this season the bright colours and principal illustrations of the books for Christmas presents first catch the eye, and claim precedence in our notice. The gayest of all bindings is to be seen in Our Children Peta (Partridge). A robin in full song, set off with green loaves and a blue sky, and enclosed in a gilt frame, adorns the cover. True Tales in tihort H'oi'dt and Large Type (Griffith and Farrtm) arc all about birds find beasts. They are adorned with eight exquisite illustrations. The Butterfly's Gospel (Jackson, Wdford, and Hodder) is ? very pretty book to look at, and embodies the old familiar allegory. Little Foxes (Bell and Daldy) is by Mrs. Boucher Stowe, a scries of essays on the insignificant little habits which mar domestic happiness. These are the little foxes that spoil the vines. Charity if eh tone (Seele)', Jackson, and Halliday) is a religious story likely to please girls, by Mrs. Carey Brock. School life is well depicted in it. The Fairy Tales of Science (Griftith and Farnin) is a fair attempt to tell some of the real wonders of science in an cosy nnd attractive way. One of tho chapters is The Life of an Atom. It records the various combinations in which an atom of carbon has found itsel...
