This time out, Lockington is caught in one of the last skirmishes of the Cold War as he finds himself hot on the trail of a Soviet defector in Youngstown, Ohio. Before going into hiding in Youngstown, former high-ranking general Alexi Fedorovich wrote The Wheels of Treachery, in which he claims that Glasnost/Perestroika is a hoax designed to relax NATO’s defenses and details an imminent Soviet invasion of the West.
A military biographer hires Lockington to track Fedorovich down, but Lockingtown and his live-in lover Natasha (a former agent herself) are skeptical_after all, the Cold War is over, isn’t it?
