More DescriptionThis story is about a little boy who wanted to become a basketball player. He had a few things that would get in his way. First, he was a very small boy and had no hopes of becoming much taller than 5'10". He also lived in a very run-down home, with one other sibling: a sister. They had to fare for themselves because their "Mother", was a drunk, and she was seldom home to care for the two children. Their names were Ann and Pete. No one knew how they got those names because there was no birth certificate for either of them. That alone made the mind go a little dizzy trying to figure out how they got here in the first place. On any given day their mother was seen at the local bar doing whatever she needed to do to get another drink. It was a known fact that she had found these two children and taken them in and was able to convince the social office that she was caring for them as her own, that way she got a check each month for the "Parenting". She used the check to buy a few cans of food and occasionally a set of clothes for her children. But most of the money went for her day at the bar. She was never nice to the children. When she got up in the morning, she had a terrible hangover and she could not wait to soften the day with a drink of any kind. Sometimes when she came home drunk, she was mad at the world and would take it out on the kids. She would find something out of place, or some minor chore not done, that is when she flew in to rage and slapped them both around till, she gave out. She never did anything to make the life of those two young people more pleasant. Everything she did was for her own benefit. Drinking was her main purpose in life. Sometimes it was the only purpose. When she was in a foul mood, which was most of the time, she would take it out on the kids by slapping them around. But when she started slapping Ann around, Pete did whatever he could to protect her, even if meant taking the beating himself. He loved his younger "sister" and shows it when he was sharing food or finding something for her to eat.
