But today when four friends stepped off the train after school, they felt that the wind was not the wind they knew.Overnight, the lives of these four friends changed, as it did for every child when COVID-19 swept the globe. The Great Wind is the story of four school-age children and the changes children faced during the early months of the pandemic.In 2021, thousands of children in Chicago told their stories of living through the pandemic as part of the Once Upon Our Time Capsule project. Co-founders Stacey Gillett and Stephanie Hodges amplify key themes and experiences shared by the children in The Great Wind. The kids' real words and artwork are blended with Ana Toro's illustrations throughout the story.
