With enemies all around her, the beautiful daughter of an illustrious Virginia family ventures back once again onto hallowed soil---Beyrance Springs College, a small men's school whose beginnings date back to the late 1780's. This Presbyterian community is also home to diverse human beings like Mona George and Amos Doppol, Miss Willie, Moira Davenport and the Reverend Sommers Martin who proclaims Telefax County "the greenest spot in the universe". What Jean discovers is the mystery.
