More DescriptionWHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU COMBINEJULES VERNE, GENE RODDENBERRY, AND JACK DANIELS?The Fantasy Submarines of Glen PurdyMild mannered advertising executive by day... mad submarine designer by night. The new sculptures of mystical submarines are the brainchild of artist Glen Purdy.Created from recycled materials and found objects, Purdy has created a nautical world of submarines and the mysterious creatures, the Pisceons, who pilot them. There is a subtle hint of humor and environmentalism in each piece. We see subs that look like whales. Complete with torpedo tubes and periscopes. We see hollow icebergs filled with surfboards, fishing poles and beer.In the giant Tarpon we find treasure hunters collecting thousands of years of human history from beneath the waves. We learn about the curious creatures who built them. A simple people, they live by a strict code to protect whales, dolphins and other majestic creatures of the deep. They like surfing, pizza and beer, not necessarily in that order. They hang out with penguins, but shy away from giant squids, rogue orcas and prefer little or no contact with humans. One submarine in particular, a dolphin sub, you find a veterinarians clinic, complete with CT scanner, and operating room. We see the doctors giving dolphins new tales, and turtles getting designer shells. In another we find their favorite watering hole. After a week of hunting whaling ships and battling giant squids they all meet at the local bar called "Finns", complete with music, liquor, card games and other diversions.Purdy is not quite sure where these ideas came from, but suspects his early interest in sci-fi and more recent flirtation with Scotch may be the answer. He can only speculate?Over 80 color pages of the real sculptures thatinspired these stories. Splendidly photographed and presented with details of how they were made. We see subs that look like whales. Complete with torpedo tubes and periscopes. We also see hollow icebergs filled with surfboards, fishing poles and beer.
