On her first day in the majority white, all-male detective squad, Greta is asked to interview distraught Rachel Vanderweck. Greta desperately wants the case, but she is passed over initially, only to be assigned to it following 9/11 when the unit is short-staffed. She struggles to solve this case. Was baby Annie kidnapped by Rachel's controlling husband, Dr. Paul Vanderweck? Was his smug, domineering mother involved? What's up with the psychologist treating Rachel weeks prior to the kidnapping, Dr. Sarah Hardenberg, who is growing increasingly unhinged following her husband's premature death from lung cancer?
