Wilford Brimley was an American actor, singer and spokesperson. He was born on September 27, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT. He dropped out of school at 14. He worked various jobs before becoming an actor. He was a cowboy, and then enlisted in the Marine Corp. After leaving the service he became a ranch hand, wrangler, blacksmith, and bodyguard.

He was known for his big mustache and playing roles as a cantankerous coot. His television work included Kung Fu, The Waltons and Our House. He was a spokesman for Quaker Oats and Liberty Medical. His movies included, Cocoon, The China Syndrome, Absence of Malice, The Firm, The Natural, Tender Mercies, High Road to China, and Cocoon: The Return.

Wilford Brimley died on August 1, 2020 in St. George, Utah at age 85. He had been suffering from a kidney ailment.
