The book begins with a historical review of the experiments of Michelson and Morley, Lorentz and others up to an exposition of Einstein's theory of relativity. The second section reproduces Einstein's original article "On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies" (Annalen der Physik, 1905), followed by a note on Albert Einstein and the various phases of his scientific activity. More DescriptionThe book begins with a historical review of the experiments of Michelson and Morley, Lorentz and others up to an exposition of Einstein's theory of relativity. The second section reproduces Einstein's original article "On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies" (Annalen der Physik, 1905), followed by a note on Albert Einstein and the various phases of his scientific activity. The next section (The principle of relativity) is a translation of Minkowski's article on "The fundamental equations for electromagnetic processes in moving bodies" (Göttinger Nachrichten, 1908), although no reference is given and the title is omitted. An appendix and Minkowski's well-known lecture on "Space and Time," delivered at the German Naturforscherversammlung in Cologne (1908) and published in the Physikalische Zeitschrift (1909) and in "Das Relativitatsprinzip," a collection of articles by Lorentz, Einstein, and Minkowski (Teubner, 1913), are included. The sixth section of the book consists of Einstein's work on the "General Theory of Relativity and Gravitation" {{Annalen der Physik, 1916).
A must-have title from the collection of affordable, well-bound science classics for your bookshelf.
