More DescriptionThe Side of the Moon is the second collection of poetry from Dr. Milowe, following his 2013 collection of 110 poems titled Strawberry Albatross.Irvin D. Milowe is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, in active practice and teaching for over forty years. In 1980, a year when a series of significant family deaths took place, poems came spontaneously to mind, clearly in an attempt to master the losses. On a ski trip, he met one of Washington, D.C.'s noted poets, who steered him to the Capital Hill Poetry Group which met weekly to share works-in-process. Following some successful submissions (under alias names, as a patient was on the Academy of American Poets), he won a Reading Competition for Rock Creek Park's Summer Series. In 1996, he moved to Miami, where he is a Professor of Psychiatry and a Training and Supervising Psychoanalyst, joined the Miami Poets, and subsequently was invited into Group Ten. He has won numerous State and National Prizes, done Readings for groups like The Boas Group, and had submissions accepted for publication.A Senior Poet Laureate since 2010, Irvin Milowe recently won 1st Prize in the "War To End All Wars" 100th Anniversary poetry contest.
