More DescriptionA man is discovered lying in the road, an ambulance and the police are called but it is apparent to all he is quite dead. From his injuries it appears he is the victim of a hit and run road traffic accident. This suspicion is confirmed when minutes later a damaged car is discovered nearby. The vehicle has sustained injuries to the front. There are also traces of blood. The investigating officers are convinced the car has been involved in the same road traffic accident involving the pedestrian. Enquiries reveal the registered keeper sold the vehicle on the internet and did not obtain any details of the buyer. The driver of the vehicle having been involved in the accident failed to stop and no report was made to the police. It is some days later when, with a view to identifying the dead pedestrian, a check of his fingerprints is made.It is revealed that he was recently released from prison on parole. He was convicted of sadistically murdering his own child and sentenced to life imprisonment. In prison he attended courses and became rehabilitated. Since his release he has been assisting in the rehabilitation of other offenders. Fearing there may be an outcry at this so called reformed man being killed, the police decide to carry out a full investigation. With the recent cuts in police staffing levels it was decided to recall Jack the Hat Richards a retired officer from New Scotland Yard in London and the National Crime Squad. He has been recalled on several other occasions with dramatic results solving every case. He works for expenses as he is receiving his police pension which goes down well with cash strapped authorities. Jack is assisted by a Policewoman Inspector, highly qualified in law but with little practical experience. They have previously formed a formidable team. Together they commence enquires. Immediately, startling results are obtained. It is then that other forces bring forward similar cases from their records. In each case a victim is discovered lying dead in the road. In each case apparently killed in a non stop or hit and run accident. The drivers of which were never traced. There was nothing at that stage to link the incidents as they were miles and time lapse apart. There is no known link between any of the parties. The files were marked off as undetected road traffic accidents.Fingerprints and DNA were discovered but there is nothing on the police data base to identify to whom they belonged. The startling common factor is that each of the road death victims has committed a heinous crime but subsequently released early from prison. There is nothing immediately obvious to link any of the cases either by the victims or the crimes committed. Jack the Hat Richards and Inspector Doris Scot-ling set about the investigation with startling results. This book contains local dialect and slang words and phrases to add realism of the characters, which should not be confused with grammatical errors.
