Bitten by a small shark while retrieving a sail from a sunken boat she fears losing him, until they receive help from a family of fishermen. Gilly's last attempt nearly kills Rich, but their whit's foil the pirates. Her skills as a surgeon are noticed while treating him and she is offered a position in Tokyo. Both overcome their former lives and allow their doubts to fade as they survive their struggles. He'd been wrongly convicted and she controlled by family.
