More DescriptionThe story of the Children of Lir you thought you knew. In a time when the Tuatha Dé Danann ruled over Éire (Ireland), Bodb Dearg was the High King and King Lir, a lesser king, often challenged his rule. The power struggle between the two men is on the verge of bloodshed when King Bodb elects to arrange the joining of his daughter Aoibh to Lir in hopes of establishing an alliance through their bond: keeping Éire peaceful and prosperous. With King Lir's union to King Bodb's daughter Aoibh completed and fruitful, a time of peace is upon them. Unfortunately, King Bodb and King Lir are faced with the untimely death of Aoibh during childbirth. As the sadness of Aoibh's passing is felt throughout the house of Lir, King Bodb once again decides to solve his problems regarding Lir with the joining of yet another daughter. Aoife is joined with Lir and becomes the stepmother to her late sister's children and the bride to her husband. King Bodb could not predict the chaos that would follow that joining, and once again the peace of Éire is at stake as Aoife is unhappy in her union. Seeking out companionship and respite from her loveless marriage to King Lir, Aoife finds solace in Manannán Mac Lir, King Lir's son. Manannán goads Aoife into helping him overthrow his father as she seeks out vengeance against him. As heir to his father's dominion as God of the Sea, Manannán seeks out the most powerful gifted of the Tuatha Dé Danann, The Foretold child of prophecy depicted in ancient texts and images who could offer the power necessary for Manannán to reign on high for all eternity. As he quests for power and control of The Foretold, Manannán must defy the Morrígan until such a time that the prophesized child is delivered into their realm.
