The Underground Blue, is a brilliant New Age book of poetry by Rebecca Anne Banks at Tea at Tympani Lane Records. The Underground Blue is the story of Summer. This New Age work, influenced by the post-modernists, the work of Leonard Cohen and the Beat Poets, is also a study in the rich Japanese tradition of Haiku. An innovation of the New Age, each poem begins with a Haiku, followed by the evolution of the body of the poem, as if finishing unfinished poems. The Haiku is influenced by the traditional rules of Haiku, the naming of a season, there is one or two kiriji, there are details of the natural world, the short Zen poems, mysterious and in the tradition of Basho, are introductions to the poem. The poetry explodes with new words, sometimes borrowing from the meme of foreign languages, sometimes inventing new words and in the celebration of alive creates a new language of hope, free from oppression.
