More DescriptionHeartwarming story of a young boy and his large, Midwestern family surviving adversity and turning tragedies into opportunities on their hilarious roller coaster ride through life after the Great Depression. The Kelly - immigrant parents with seven children - survived the Great Depression, only to slip into poverty because of the father's tragic accident. They deal with trials and triumphs in the years leading up to and during World War II. Expect laughter and tears as you fall in love with The Urchins.Father's Day 1998, our son Christopher gave me a book entitled A Father's Legacy. Blank pages stared back at me. Another glance at the cover revealed the words Your Life Story in Your Own Words. It was a tale waiting to be told. I was inspired to start writing immediately. What a wonderful project it has been for me.The more I wrote, the more I learned about my family and myself. While we thought we were doing just fine, God often had something better in mind - like being evicted from our home in an affluent suburb only to move to a much larger place, though in a poorer neighborhood. It has been a great joy to look back and see how so many people have influenced, guided and taken the time to help me along the way. This book is a tribute to those people. I wrote each story from the point of view of a child and as I remembered them. Some of the names have been changed for obvious reasons. To those who read this book, I hope you take it in the spirit in which it was written. I tried not to take myself too seriously. This is the first book in a series of Mark A Kelly's Memoirs.
