This book is a tribute to incredible English students
in 2021, COVID-19 restrictions greatly affected education systems around the world. More than that, students' lives were affected. This book takes, for the second time, a classroom exercise and turns it into a happy exclamation point. Giving ESL students the opportunity to take a bit of their school year home with them... literally.
In January 2023, I asked my English students to begin class by writing a 7-sentence story, beginning with the prompt: The Window. We discussed the stories in class, they worked together to point out common mistakes and how to correct them and one month later, they submitted a final version. That's what you'll find in this book.
About the Authors
In addition to my own micro-story, 53 students opted to lend their voices to this collection. The students are part of the Performing Arts Program at l'Université de Poitiers (Poitiers, France) and they are part of the first year class of 2022-2023.You'll read stories expressing wonder or humour, recalling childhood memories and promoting environmental awareness. Such is the wonder of working with students... the stories are as unique as they are.
Educational Value
Large compositions can be intimidating for second language learners, so this offered them a chance to view a composition as something achievable. From this common starting point, we could give them an opportunity to both express themselves as individuals, as well as improve their linguistic skills. Compiling their micro-stories into a book form gave them a unique goal to work toward, motivating them, while adding an element of fun - as well as the notoriety of seeing their names in print.
