This is a book for "The Young at Heart" based upon the author's childhood theory that trees cause the winds to blow by waving their branches about like huge fans. It made sense to him then and still looks that way sometimes. The story is told by the author's childhood alter ego, Sammy Smallwood who lives on a farm where there are lots of trees. One day while roaming the wooded area with his three dogs he encounters a huge oak tree who talks to him in tree talk. His name is Barry Big Oak and his army of 700 Wood Forces determine whether the winds will blow or not. The winds bring needed rain clouds however Barry has a problem with mood swings which causes him to blow against rain clouds. Sammy likes big Barry but he is concerned about Barry's mood swings because it affects his father's crops. So Sammy sets out on a plan to cure Big Barry of his mood swings so his father will have rain on his crops again.
