Thomas McClung was born in Rockbridge, Virginia in 1728, to immigrant parents John and Rebecca Stuart McClung. He married Nancy Black. They owned a farm on Muddy Creek Mountain in Greenbrier County and had six children. Thomas was a militia man in the Virginia Colonial Army. He was killed at the Battle of Point Pleasant on October 10, 1774, and was buried on the battlefield.
