More DescriptionThe sixty-six poems included in Threaded Hoops are snapshots in word beginning with the understanding that we are all indigenous, “threaded hoops on the edge of knowingbeing…”
The poems range from deeply personal affairs of the heart, to Fibers from the Field, experiences while Joan Koerper served in capacities such as an Investigative Police Officer with the Detroit Police Department. They are voices of pain and longing still echoing in the moonless night. The section Pure Gold Homeless offers a glimpse of sixteen of the hundreds of homeless people Koerper has met who have touched her heart.
In the remaining sections, Mountain Filaments and Howling Desert Blessings Koerper travels to rainbows above a mountain snowstorm, encounters “The Ghost in the Rock” in the San Jacinto Mountains, dances to “Dehydrational Delusions” and chants with La Loba, the Bone Gatherer who restores beings and souls.
Threaded Hoops concludes with the assertion that “the desert of my soul is a life giving place” generating hope and honoring life in all its forms. Poet and Professor of Creative Writing, Mike Cluff writes,”Threaded Hoops by Joan Koerper is a great body of poetic work that catches the nuances of real emotions with the incisive precision of a reporter's eye. Her work is very detailed and specific and creates a unique perspective where love and understanding of the living world as an integrated entity in constant flow with myriad streams of experiences. All this is explored by Koerper with constant compassion and deep insights throughout.”
