The TimeWise American History Timeline (Mid-size), was developed as part of the TimeWise Cross-Curricular Literacy Program, which places a strong emphasis on building and activating background knowledge. The TimeWise Program was created to foster connections between literacy, history, and science so that students acquire a new depth of understanding. The TimeWise Timeline provides a visual scene for each time period in American History. Running parallel to the history section, is a section on major inventions/ technological advances that affected way of life. A third section has space for book templates, where teachers can place the title and author of the literature they are teaching, and place it into the timeline in the correct time period. With the combined use of the TimeWise visual American History Timeline, picture vocabulary cards, and the valuable assistance of the teacher's guide, teaching literacy takes on new meaning.
