Three years later, his world is turned upside down when she is attacked one evening by a creature Robin has never seen before just as he is planning to propose. In protecting her, Robin takes the creature's venom himself and will die. To save Robin's life, the young woman must reveal to him that she actually is an elf, an Elvan princess from the realm of Elvia. Her claim is born out by the fortuitous arrival of her Elvan guardian, Tallan Dehr. Not only is Vania a princess, as the last of her bloodline she is destined to become the next 'Old Queen' of the Elvian realm. In the Elvian realm, words are spells and magic is real. The Human realm and the Elvian realm exist simultaneously, separated by the Barrier.that was formed in ancient times by Elvian magic. But there are small breaches where it can be crossed. The Barrier presents an impossible situation for Robin and Vania, since any beings from the Human realm that crosses goes through a Barrier breach will be killed by its magical protection of the Elvian realm. The situation in Elvia, however, demands that Vania return. The Mal Queen Feryss intends to wage war on the Elvan people and destroy the bloodline of the Old Queen... the only thing that maintains the magic of the Barrier, and that means she intends to destroy Vania. But Vania must return to the Elvian realm if her destiny to become the next Old Queen and save the Barrier, the Elvian realm and the Human realm as well is to be fulfilled. If she does not return and chooses to remain in the Human realm with Robin, her father will be forced to kill Robin to end the bond she and Robin have with each other.
