For Angus Finnegan the day the dead rose to consume the living began like so many others, in blood and terror. On Outbreak Day, Angus Finnegan, builder of helicopters, goes to work with no greater concern than earning his family a living. Things soon spiral out of control as Finnegan is confronted by the impossible, an actual zombie feasting upon one of his coworkers. After a brief, and bloody, struggle, Finnegan awakes to discover his workplace overrun with the undead. During his escape and return to his family, Finnegan faces death, mercenaries, redneck bikers, an undying intelligent zombie, a murderous gypsy, and possible nuclear annihilation. As Finnegan fights his way home, an ultra secret military association known as the T. R. Society implement the doomsday protocols of the San Juan Mandate, a presidential order more than a hundred years old. Headed by Admiral Horace Mayweather, the T. R. Society will stop at nothing to ensure the ultimate survival of the human race, even committing an act of treason so terrible it will reshape the United States. When the mercenaries erect a wall preventing escape from the quarantine zone, Finnegan must call upon his oldest friends, James Fox and Carroll Rivers, to save his family from being eaten alive by the hordes of undead intent on wiping humanity from the face of the planet. Led by an intelligent, seemingly undying alpha zombie the horde of undead follow Finnegan's flight, devouring and converting all in their path.
