One of the greatest and most fulfilling expeditions one can take is into our internal world: our self. For the majority of us, self is not something created in isolation. More DescriptionOne of the greatest and most fulfilling expeditions one can take is into our internal world: our self. For the majority of us, self is not something created in isolation. "We are a culmination of all the experiences, people, creatures, ideas, objects, decisions, and choices that have passed our way," Corinne Westphal says. The 32 Explorations In Unearthing Your Treasures are created with that philosophy in mind. They explore self in relation to how it has influenced and how it has been influenced by the people and world around us. Each journaling prompt, called an Exploration, delves into different facets of our experiences and who we are. Several of them approach an age-old subject through a back-door, a few ask to suspend reality and use imagination, and others just get to the point. Each was created with the hope of helping the journaler take a fresh view of different parts of who they are and, in the course of reflection, who they wish to become. Corinne uses the analogy of digging up treasures because she views us as archeologists digging treasures from within ourselves. As a decades-long journaler, Corinne does not adhere to the daily journaling technique; she takes a different pace. In Unearthing Your Treasures, sometimes she encourages spontaneous and immediate writing to an Exploration, while other times she recommends reflection, pondering, and living life in order to write authentically and truthfully. She hopes that you find and do it your way.
