French description: Le Livre d'Heures flamand Croy-Arenberg, un chef-d'oeuvre de l'enluminure ganto-brugeoise, contient entre autres, au point de vue iconographique, un cycle extraordinaire de la Danse Macabre. Dans le manuscrit, la vigile des morts est enluminee dans les marges inferieures par 75 medaillons, dans lesquels est representee cette danse remarquable. Le sujet connaissait au cours du 15e siecle une grande popularite, tant dans la litterature que dans les arts plastiques; pourtant il n'a jamais ete execute d'une facon aussi exhaustive en tant qu'illustration d'un Livre d'Heures enlumine connu. L'iconographie extremement riche et bon nombre de details specifiques de cette Danse Macabre inclinent vers une origine francaise. Commandee par un haut dignitaire anglais, l'enluminure du manuscrit fut confiee probablement a un atelier brugeois vers la fin du 15e siecle. La connaissance de l'enlumineur Simon Marmion sur le theme de la Danse Macabre, ainsi que le style d'un nombre de miniatures a pleines pages ajoutees au Livre d'Heures, qui sont egalement typiques de l'entourage de cet enlumineur natif de Valenciennes, permettent d'attribuer l'execution de l'enluminure a son atelier, ainsi qu'au maitre du Livre de Prieres de Dresde et au maitre des Livres de Prieres vers 1500. Le nombre de personnages qui figurent dans la Danse, et l'iconographie d'origine plut"t francaise mais comprenant des details typiquement flamands, nous devoilent un manuscrit exceptionnel d'une qualite superieure.
