More DescriptionThe stories, essays, and poems collected in issue 3 of Glossolalia, PEN America's translation magazine, are among the newest and most relevant works coming from writers and artists publishing in mainland China today. The issue is rich in short fantasy and satire, microblogs, imaginary maps, blue-collar poetry, and other nontraditional pieces in an attempt to move beyond a general--and impossible to capture--representation of China's official publishing industry and instead showcase the diversity of China's literary and cultural landscape. Glossolalia partners with editors who have a keen knowledge of local art and literary trends to help advocate for those writers who are doing groundbreaking work, but have limited access to a global reading community. By publishing works from the least translated territories of the world, we connect contemporary storytellers to audiences eager to read broadly and beyond their own knowledge, comfort, and experiences.
