Author Biography
Moore, Harold G. (Author)
Harold Gregory Moore Jr. was born in Bardstown, Kentucky on February 13, 1922. He graduated from George Washington University in 1942 and from West Point in 1945. After West Point, he served in the Korean War and in Europe. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1965 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for valor at I Drang. After returning to the United States, he was assigned to plan for the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam, commanded Fort Ord in California where he dealt with antiwar demonstrators, and was named the Army's deputy chief of staff for personnel in Washington. He was a lieutenant general when he retired from active duty in 1977.

In 1992, he and Joseph L. Galloway wrote We Were Soldiers Once ¿ and Young, which was adapted into a 2002 movie entitled We Were Soldiers starring Mel Gibson. They also wrote We Are Soldiers Still: A Journey Back to the Battlefields of Vietnam. He died on February 10, 2017 at the age of 94.
