When my 13 year old daughter came out as being pan sexual, it was a journey of standing up for her when it came to our religion. More DescriptionWhen my 13 year old daughter came out as being pan sexual, it was a journey of standing up for her when it came to our religion. My daughter is not only part of the LGBTQ+ community, she is also a Christian. After many meetings forced on us by church leadership to "pray the gay" out of her, I really felt a calling to advocate for this group against anyone who tries to say that because they are gay, they are not loved and accepted in Jesus. Through my journey to the truth, I decided to document my research here. I do not aim to add to or take away from the bible or to change scripture in any way. I do believe that the bible is the authoritative word of God, but I also have found key evidence that biases, mistranslations, and cultural contexts have been inserted into current translations and that has shaped the way this community is treated and accepted. The evidence, to me, was so profound that it has completely changed what I thought I knew regarding this topic.
I broke down all foundations of my faith that I thought I knew regarding this topic and searched for the truth using ancient texts and by researching what others have found in an effort to change the mistranslations of the bible that have filtered down through the decades. This study provides a deep look into the 7 verses that mentions homosexuality and covers the history of how this word came to be. In highlighting these 7 verses and looking at historical and cultural contexts, you will see how these verses, in no way, adequately depict what we know of same sex loving, committed relationships today. It is my hope in sharing my journey and my findings that it opens up the conversation in your life. If you are part of the LGBTQ+ community and are seeking acceptance and answers because you've been persecuted against, I beg of you to come and be certain that you are a loved and accepted child of God. If you are researching answers for your child, because like me, you cannot fathom that the wonderful God we worship could ever not love His own child, come and be certain that your child is wonderfully and fearfully made and is just as loved as anyone else He created. If you are a pastor and you just want to open your mind to ways of thinking that you may not have thought of in order to help someone in your congregation, come and look at the bible through a different lens...a lens that shows all are welcome in the Kingdom of God...a lens that shows WHOSOEVER believes is worthy of the redemption of Jesus and acceptance in the church.
