Lenny's life is a hard, brutal, lonely one in this future Scotland. Resources are low, depleted, countries scrabbling in conflict over dwindling fuel reserves. Paid jobs are rare, and if you haven't got one you have to work for food, on one of the many small government farms or ag-units. Decades of exploitation of the land have left large areas poisoned, unsuitable for food production, and many ag-units are scattered around poor, marginal land in wilder places.Lenny finds solace in the mountain slopes around the ag-unit he ends up on, and the names attached to them; names that take him out of this world, into times long past and myth and legend. However a never-ending government quest, for any remaining riches the land may hold, brings a pervading disturbance to the fragile peace of the hillside.Bullied and picked on, an eventual confrontation sees him fleeing from the ag unit. Desperate and alone, he falls in with an unlikely ally, and discovers that there is more than myth behind the names.
