More DescriptionJack Walker and his wife Dani grew up in rural western Maine and, along with Jack's disturbed older brother Ben, they move to New Jersey for work. There, Jack encounters Kasia, a beautiful young Polish woman in the throes of negotiating a difficult marriage and dealing with motherhood; Joaquin, a strong-willed Puerto Rican striving to be successful at work and to develop an intimate relationship with Kasia; and Tommy, a remarkable oaf who is somewhat of a pest but turns out to have a major impact on all their lives. He is knicknamed "Sweetheart," as he hollers "Hey, Sweetheart!" at his co-workers. Jack and Dani's secluded and peaceful home in the northern New Jersey woods is disrupted by the arrival of neighbors from New York and particularly by the unpleasant ten-year-old boy and his four-wheeler. The neighbors attempt to find a niche each can live in peacefully, which turns out to be complicated and difficult. The dark forces from the woods unknowingly invade and impact all their lives and each has to come to terms with tragedy and loss. Along the way, relationships are tested and many crumble, and some occurrences cannot be explained, yet this story also tells a tale of endurance and triumph. Naturally, there is also devastating loss.
