The war itself fundamentally uprooted the economic, political and social structure of the nation from its inception and changed America's place in the world. This book seeks to trace that history, to provide a complete description of the course of the war including the horrors the American Expeditionary Force encountered on the Western Front, the process of industrialization the nation at large underwent and examine the resulting political, societal and economic changes the United States underwent as a result.
