The House/ Hotel that Barbara discovered and bought in the first title of the series 'The House I Dreamed Of' was built by Colonel Jeremiah Ross Brown. He designed all of its hidden secrets to baffle the authorities that would eventually come searching for the runaways who would travel through his Underground Railroad Depot. When he finally opened the depot for use he was hiding all these runaway slaves from the customers who occupied his hotel which included the bounty hunters that were sent out by the Plantation owners to retrieve their property. Naturally they always showed up at the least opportune moment. Skirting around their prying eyes could be a real challenge considering the option you had if they caught you. It meant a whopping fine and maybe even prison. It was after all the law of the United States Government set up by Congress to try and appease the South who wanted desperately to secede from the Union. Such was the life of an Underground Railroad Depot Agent at the beginning of the Civil War. The Civil War breaks out and Jeremiah must go fight leaving his wife and children to deal with the hotel and the Underground Railroad escapees. It eventually leads to some dicey moments before Jeremiah can get back home to help fix the problems. Come join in the misadventures of the Brown family Underground Railroad.
